I am one lucky girl. During all the different jobs I’ve had so far, I have always been so lucky to have had so many lovely colleagues. Quite some of them I’m still in contact with. Some of them have become good friends that I meet on a regular basis, some of them I see a couple of times a year, some I just skype with once in a while, some I just exchange the occasional message on Facebook with and some I write old-school letters with (handwritten or even typed on my granddad’s typewriter). But I’m grateful for having met each and every one of them.
A couple of month ago I came home after a rather tough day at work. It had been one of those days after which you just want to crawl under your duvet for the rest of the day and don’t want to see or hear anything or anyone. But then there was this lovely package in the mailbox from a friend from Vermont with all kinds of small handmade things and a lovely greeting. Those small things can really save your day, I’m telling you! 🙂
I feel a bit ashamed that it took me several months to send something back, but now I finally got around to it. I decided to knit some mittens for him (for whatever reason this year seems to be “the year of the mitten” in this house). As I imagine autumn in Vermont to be at least as chilly as autumn in Copenhagen, so I hope he’ll have some use for them. 🙂

Ich bin ein wahrer Glückspilz. In all den Jobs, die ich die letzten Jahre gehabt habe, hab ich immer so viel Glück gehabt, ganz wunderbare Kollegen gehabt zu haben. Mit ganz schön vielen von ihnen habe ich bis heute noch Kontakt. Ein paar von ihnen sind gute Freunde geworden, mit denen ich mich regelmäßig treffe, mit einigen von ihnen skype ich ab und zu, mit einigen schicke ich die gelegentliche Facebook Nachricht hin und her und mit ein paar schreibe ich sogar noch richtige old-school Briefe (handgeschrieben oder sogar auf der alten Schreibmaschine von meine Opa getippt).
Vor ein paar Monaten hatte ich einen richtigen *piiiep*Tag auf der Arbeit. Einer von diesen Tagen, nach dem man sich nur unter der Bettdecke verkriechen möchte und nichts und niemanden hören oder sehen will. Doch als ich nach Hause kam lag da ein kleines Päckchen im Briefkasten. Ein Päckchen von einem Freund aus Vermont, der mir alle möglichen kleinen handgemachten Dinge zugeschickt hat. Man soll wirklich nicht unterschätzen, wie sehr solch kleine Dinge einem den Tag retten können! 🙂
Es hat zwar etwas länger gedauert, bis ich es geschafft habe, ihm endlich etwas zurück zu schicken, aber das Päckchen ist nun auf dem Weg. Ein paar Handschuhe hab ich ihm gestrickt (dieses Jahr steht wohl aus irgendeinem Grund unter dem Stern der Handschuhe 😉 ) und da ich mir den Herbst in Vermont mindestens genauso kühl vorstelle wie den Herbst in Kopenhagen, hoffe ich sehr, dass er sie gebrauchen kann 🙂

Yesterday was the first day that felt a little bit like autumn – it was a little chilly biking to work in the morning, the light was different and the air had this distinct smell of autumn – ever so slightly. Somehow the weather in Denmark got it all wrong: It’s still August!
But I refuse to be dragged into autumn mode yet (even though I quite like autumn) and had an urge for lush green colours.

Gestern war der erste Tag, der sich ein kleines bisschen wie Herbst angefühlt hat: Morgens war es ziemlich kühl auf dem Weg zur Arbeit, das Licht war irgendwie anders und die Luft hatte diesen ganz bestimmten Herbstgeruch – so ein ganz kleines bisschen. Irgendwie hat das Wetter in Dänemark etwas mißverstanden: Es ist doch erst August!
Ich weigere mich allerdings jetzt schon in Herbstlaune zu kommen (obwohl ich den Herbst wirklich gerne mag) und hatte abends dann das Bedürfnis nach “Grün” zu stöbern. This cowl has been a true pleasure to knit. I have mostly been knitting it on my way to work when the weather was bad, so it took a little longer. The pattern is easy enough to be watching TV or listening to podcasts/audio books at the same time, but not too simple to get boring.

Dieser Loop war ein ganz besonders tolles Projekt. Ich hab es zum größten Teil im Bus auf dem Weg zur Arbeit gestrickt wenn das Wetter mal nicht so super war – es hat also etwas länger gedauert. Die Anleitung ist einfach genug, um nebenbei noch Fernsehen zu schauen oder Podcasts/Hörbücher zu hören, aber trotzdem nicht zu leicht, um langweilig zu werden.

I am a lucky one with lots of friends with kids (read: Plenty of opportunity to knit/crochet cute and tiny things). In June one of my friends will have her first baby girl. And a baby girl will need a baby dress. Naturally.
Leftover wool from my pirate chest, pattern from Pickles and done was the little dress/top.
I’m not quite sure what happened in the front, but I found out that Fisherman’s rib is nothing I should do while watching Game of Thrones.
Apart from that I can only recommend this little project – a real quick knit!

Ich bin in der glücklichen Situation viele Freundinnen zu haben, die bereits Kinder haben (lies: reichlich Möglichkeiten, um kleine süße Dinge zu häkeln und stricken). Und jetzt im Juni wird eine Freundin ihr erstes Mädchen bekommen.
Und ein kleines Mädchen benötigt selbstverständlich auch ein kleines Kleidchen.
Restwolle aus meiner Piratenkiste, Anleitung von Pickles und schwuppdiwupp war das Kleidchen/Top fertig.
Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher was auf der Vorderseite passiert ist, aber ich habe gelernt, dass ich kein Patent stricken sollte, während ich Game of Thrones schaue.
Davon abgesehen kann ich dieses kleine Strickprojekt wärmstens empfehlen – strickt sich schnell und einfach!

Schon seit einiger Zeit bin ich auf Ravelry, aber nun habe ich es endlich geschafft ein Konto dort einzurichten, der zu diesem Blog passt. Hurra!
Natürlich war meine erste “selbstgemachte” Strickanleitung das erste, was ich dort hochgeladen habe und muss auch gestehen, dass ich ein kleines bisschen stolz bin. 🙂

As mentioned before, I am lucky to have plenty of friends with kids or kids on their way. Baby clothes are just so adorable – and usually a quick knit and a good way to use up left-over yarn (which was one of my New Year’s resolutions).
This time I threw myself over a free pattern that I have used several times already, because it is a perfect project to work on in front of the TV and it is just so cute with its little pointy tip: The Alladin hat by Drops.
Unfortunately I did not have a model at hand so you will only see the hat laying down flat, but I hope to maybe get a picture once the hat will fits its future owner. 🙂
