Laban, a Little Cardigan – Laban, ein kleines Jäckchen

In the beginning of December I came to think that: “Oops, we need a present for M’s little niece (aka. “The Princess”). Oops, she’s in Canada this year. Oops, it’s already December and we’ll have to send the present at least a week before Christmas for it to arrive in time. Darn.”

What to do?

Well, we could have bought something, but the girl is four (read: has a very small size in clothes) and has a strong affinity for pink. Anything pink really. A little cardigan is quickly knit and I have always wanted to knit some of the things from Signe Strømgaard’s book Knits for Little Scamps (for the Scandinavians: Strik til banditter). Already knowing that I would want to knit Laban I went to my local yarn pusher, got the book and some Lama Wool in the brightest pink I could find (and beige, so my eyes wouldn’t hurt too much) and started knitting.

It knit up really quickly and was a fun little project. As buttons I chose some wooden ones that…well, made it look a little more natural. It’ll surely not be the last time I’ve made this cardigan. And the Lama Wool is so lovely for kids clothes. It feels nice and warm and I very much enjoy knitting with it.

Apparently the princess liked what Santa knit for her. I’m not sure though whether it arrived in time for Christmas and I don’t dare to ask. 🙂

Anfang Dezember fiel mir auf einmal folgendes ein: “Huch, wir brauchen ja auch noch ein Geschenk für M’s kleine Nichte (aka. “die Prinzessin”). Huch, die ist ja dieses Jahr in Kanada. Ups, und es ist ja schon Dezember und wir müssen das Geschenk mindestens eine Woche vor Weihnachten abschicken, damit es noch pünktlich ankommt. Mist.”

Was tun?

Nun gut, wir hätten auch einfach was kaufen können. Allerdings ist die Nichte erst 4 Jahre alt (lies: hat eine kleine Kleidergröße) und eine extreme Vorliebe für Pink. Eigentlich egal was, Hauptsache pink. Ein kleines Jäckchen ist schnell gemacht und ich wollte schon immer etwas von Signe Strømgaards Buch “Knits for Little Scamps” stricken. Ich wusste, dass ich “Laban” stricken wollte, bin zu meinem lokalen Garndealer, hab mir das Buch und Lamawolle in dem grellsten Pink geholt, das ich finden konnte (und ein bisschen Beige, um meinen Augen einen Gefallen zu tun) und hab mich ans Stricken gemacht.

Das ging ratz fatz und fertig war das Jäckchen. Die Knöpfe sind aus Holz, damit das Jäckchen ein bisschen natürlicher aussieht (pink erinnert mich immer sehr an Plastik). Es wird bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal sein, dass ich dieses Jäckchen gestrickt habe und die Lamawolle ist immer wieder toll für Kindersachen: Sie ist weich und warm und fühlt sich auch beim Stricken gut an.

Und anscheinend gefiel der Prinzessin auch, was der Weihnachtsmann da für sie gestrickt hat. Aber ob es pünktlich zu Weihnachten angekommen ist weiß ich immer noch nicht und ich trau mich auch nicht zu fragen. 🙂
