Wow, this month a lot has happened. I’ve started on a couple of Christmas presents for kids Finally finished my granny square blanket Started on my freestyle project, the blue sweater Met with some lovely knitters from Copenhagen for our first knitting meet-up (to be repeated!) Finished the birthday cowl for my cousin (post coming soon!) Visited the pop-op store…
In October I decided to challenge myself and finally finish my granny-square blanket during my week of holiday in the beginning of November. At the end of my holiday I had to admit that I was once again defeated. But guess what: I’M DONE!
3,5 years. That’s apparently the time frame I need for crocheting a blanket. It was a tough project at times and I have often thought about just dropping the project altogether and giving it to some charity.
But I must admit that I am glad I pulled through. This blanket will keep us warm in winter, will be great for picnics in summer and if you’ve been working hard on something you enjoy the final product all the more.

Im Oktober habe ich mich selbst dazu herausgefordert, endlich meine Granny-Square Decke während meines Urlaubs Anfang November fertigzustellen. Am Ende des Urlaubs musste ich mich dann wieder einmal geschlagen geben. Aber jetzt bin ich fertig!
3,5 Jahre. So lange brauche ich anscheinend, um eine Granny-Square Decke fertigzustellen. Ab und zu war es wirklich anstrengend und ich habe mehr als einmal in Erwägung gezogen, einfach aufzuhören und das komplette Projekt an einen guten Zweck zu spenden.
Letztendlich bin ich aber doch überglücklich, dass ich durchgehalten und bis zum Ende weitergehäkelt habe. Diese Decke wird uns im Winter schön warm halten, im Sommer als Picknickdecke dienen und wenn man so lange an etwas gearbeitet hat, weiß man es letzten Endes doch umso mehr zu schätzen.

I’ve fallen in love – yet again.
The other day Brooklyn Tweed published Wool People 8. And again there are so many gorgeous patterns!
I think I’ll have to quit my day job and just stay at home knitting. Not sure what my bank account or my boyfriend would say to that, but who needs money or a boyfriend if you have some absolutely gorgeous garments to knit?!

Ich habe mich verliebt – wieder mal.
Brooklyn Tweed haben kürzlich ihr Lookbook Wool People 8 herausgebracht und wieder einmal ist es gefüllt mit absolut fantastischen Designs. Ich glaub, ich muss bald meinen Job kündigen und einfach nur den ganzen Tag stricken (stell dir mal vor!). Bin mir zwar nicht ganz sicher was mein Bankkonto oder mein Freund dazu sagen würden, aber wer brauch schon Geld oder einen Freund, wenn man den ganzen lieben langen Tag so tolle Sachen stricken könnte?!

The neverending project remains a neverending project. After a week of holiday, hours with my crochet hook in my hand and a firm determination to finally finish my granny square blanket, I find myself defeated – once again.
It all went really well, I joined the remainders of the rows sideways, all rows lengthwise, wove in all ends and even started on the edging. And then it happened: I ran out of yarn. Aaaaargh. I’m lacking one side of edging. ONE. SIDE.
The new and final skein is ordered and I hope to pick it up at the end of the month at my mother’s place when I go to Germany.
What an anti-climax. But hey, at least I know there’s only a couple of minutes of work left before I’m totally and utterly finished with this neverending project. 🙂

Das niemals enden wollende Projekt weigert sich stur und steif fertig zu werden. Nach einer Woche Urlaub, Stunden mit der Häkelnadel in der Hand und der Entschlossenheit ein für alle Mal mit der Decke fertig zu werden, muss ich mich nun leider doch wieder geschlagen geben.
Dabei lief es so gut: Ich hatte die letzten Reihen der Breite nach und alle Reihen der Länge nach zusammengehäkelt, alle Fäden vernäht und mit der Kante angefangen. Und dann ist mir auf dem letzten Stück doch tatsächlich das Garn ausgegangen. An der letzten Seite! ARGH!
Das letzte Wollknäuel ist bereits bestellt und ich hoffe, ich kann es Ende des Monats bei Muttern während meines Besuchs in Deutschland abholen.
Welch ein Antiklimax. Zumindest weiß ich nun, dass ich nur ein paar Minuten Arbeit vor mir habe bevor ich endgültig mit diesem niemals enden wollende Projekt fertig bin. 🙂
Maybe you remember the Dory gloves that I knit for a friend in Vermont a while ago. The plan was to write up the pattern and share it with you. I had already taken pictures of them and had even convinced my boyfriend to play hand model in the park close by (we earned some wondrous looks from people passing by 🙂 ). But then I sent the gloves and forgot all about how many stitches I cast on etc. Oh well.
At one point my boyfriend asked whether I had already posted “his” pictures and seemed a teeny weeny bit disappointed that I had no plans of posting them anyway (the pictures were supposed to go together with the pattern after all). Well, we can’t have that. So here you get the “model pictures”. 🙂

Vielleicht kannst du dich noch an die Dory Handschuhe erinnern, die ich vor ein paar Wochen an einen Freund in Vermont geschickt habe. Mein ursprünglicher Plan war eine kleine Strickanleitung aufzuschreiben und sie hier mit dir zu teilen. Ich hatte sogar meinen Freund überredet im benachbarten Park als Handschuh-Model herzuhalten (und haben uns da ein paar neugierige Blicke geerntet 🙂 ). Aber dann hab ich die Handschuhe auf Reisen geschickt und ganz vergessen wie viele Maschen ich angeschlagen habe etc. Nun ja.
Irgendwann hat mich mein Freund gefragt, ob ich “seine” Bilder bereits gepostet hab und war ein klitzekleines bisschen enttäuscht als er erfuhr, dass ich die Bilder eigentlich nicht mehr posten wollte (die sollten ja zusammen mit der Anleitung gepostet werden aus der ja nun leider doch nichts mehr geworden ist). Deshalb bekommst du hier nun unsere Handschuhbilder gezeigt, wir können ja nicht haben, dass der Mann enttäuscht ist. 😉

Everyone seems to have one of those kind of projects at one point in their knitting career. It was a brilliant idea to start with, but then it became quite pricey, boring or maybe even the two combined.
And then it just never ends. IT. NEVER. ENDS.
My neverending project is the granny square blanket. The inspiration was an old granny square blanket in not quite the right colours we saw in a second hand store in Århus. I still hear myself saying “I’ll just make that myself!”
That was in…I’m ashamed to say it, but yes, it was in spring 2011.
3,5 years later I’m still not finished.
But now I have one week of holiday and I gave myself the challenge to finally finish it. See what still needs to be done down by pictures. Will you cross your fingers for me? Pretty please?! 🙂

Jeder scheint irgendwann in seiner Strick-Karriere mal auf ein solches Projekt zu stoßen. Es hört sich am Anfang immer nach einer fantastischen Idee an und dann wird’s auf einmal sehr teuer, langweilig oder im schlimmsten Fall sogar beides.
Und dann wird man einfach nicht fertig. MAN. WIRD. EINFACH. NICHT. FERTIG!
Mein niemals enden wollendes Projekt ist meine Granny-Square-Decke. Wir hatten in einem Second Hand Laden in Århus eine tolle Decke mit den etwas falschen Farben gesehen. Ich höre mich noch immer sagen: “Ach, die mach ich doch einfach selber!” Das fand – und ich schäm mich fast ein bisschen – im Frühling 2011 statt.
3,5 Jahre später kämpfe ich noch immer mit der Decke.
Aber jetzt habe ich eine Woche Urlaub und ich habe mir fest vorgenommen, die Decke fertigzustellen. Drückst du mir die Daumen? Bitte, bitte? 🙂

Today my holiday has started. One week of sleeping in, going for walks, afternoon powernaps and of course knitting.
This morning I got myself a holiday care package: tea, autumn plants (for the autumn atmosphere inside 😉 ) & yarn for a Christmas present for my best friend’s baby boy.
Holiday, I’m ready for you! 🙂

Heute hat endlich mein Urlaub angefangen. Eine Woche mit lang schlafen, Spaziergängen, Mittagsschläfchen und natürlich stricken.
Da hab ich mir heute Morgen doch sofort ein kleines Urlaubspäckchen zusammengestellt: Tee, Herbstpflanze (für die Herbststimmung im Haus 😉 ) und Garn für das Weihnachtsgeschenk für den kleinen Jungen meiner besten Freundin.
Urlaub, ich bin bereit! 🙂
